Finding Purpose Through Advocacy: My Journey with the Epilepsy Services Foundation By Bianca Harris, Program Coordinator

When I first joined the Epilepsy Services Foundation, I knew I was stepping into a community filled with strength, resilience, and hope. Although I do not live with epilepsy myself, my time here has deeply shaped the way I see advocacy, compassion, and the power of connection. Working alongside individuals and families affected by epilepsy has not only expanded my understanding of the condition but also strengthened my commitment to creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Each story I have heard has reminded me that epilepsy does not define a person. It reveals the courage within them. I have met parents who balance care and advocacy with incredible grace, young people who boldly share their experiences to help others, and supporters who dedicate their time to raising awareness. Every conversation, every event, and every outreach effort brings us closer to a world where epilepsy is not misunderstood or stigmatized but approached with empathy and knowledge.

At the Epilepsy Services Foundation, we strive to create that world. Our mission is to increase understanding of epilepsy, provide education and resources, and promote a sense of hope for all those impacted by the condition. From seizure first aid training to support programs and awareness campaigns, every initiative is designed to remind individuals and families that they are not alone.

This work has changed me. It has taught me the importance of listening, learning, and standing alongside others in their journey. It has reminded me that advocacy is not only about raising awareness but about building relationships, amplifying voices, and ensuring every person living with epilepsy knows they are valued and supported.

As we continue this mission, I invite you to join us. Whether by sharing information, volunteering, attending a training, or simply starting a conversation, your involvement makes a difference. Together, we can build a more informed, compassionate community that embraces understanding and replaces fear with hope.

Thank you to everyone who continues to walk with us on this journey. The work we do is not just about epilepsy. It is about humanity, empathy, and the belief that every life has purpose and possibility.
